The Eco-Hive is born….
After much coughing and spluttering Eco-Hive is born!
How many of us hanker for a simpler life, a life where we have to work less and have the ability to enjoy more. To do this in today’s climate would almost seem to be an impossibility….
Eco-Hive is the brain child of a small group of ‘pioneers’ in the south west of England. We are normal people, people who know that no matter who ya vote for the Government gets in! And the dream of getting out of the rat race seems to get further away, myself; a 38 year old father of one will probably have to work for the rest of his days just to pay the bills and really doesn’t relish the thought of it!

The Hive concept was started as a friend of mine and I discussed the merits of breaking free from society and not being shafted by yet another 30% gas price rise. We thought there must be a better way living but didn’t really want to give up the modern home comforts of Sky TV and the internet. So we did some research and found out that it could be possible to achieve both goals… The thought then struck us; wouldn’t it be great if we could design, develop and build a village of homes in which the residents, just by living, make a positive ecological contribution.
Being a bit a novice in the environmental side of things I decided to consult another friend of mine, an award winning environmentalist (he’s gonna hate me saying that). After a few minutes he was on board! It was apparent that some of the concepts he was developing on sustainable living could be neatly dovetailed into the scheme, and then the unthinkable happened…..the idea evolved and became a project!!!
The goal:
To use and combine current technologies and, where required, develop new solutions. Whilst doing this we want to originate an adaptable template for other communities to follow firstly, in the British Isles and worldwide.
We want to focus on affordable housing solutions for communities that will have a positive net contribution to the local and global environment without sacrificing the essentials for modern living. A big ask we know but hey, you got to shoot for the stars to get even close!!
We want to develop an On-line Community that can come together to solve the problems that we will encounter. And we will encounter problems, mainly down to the fact that none of us have ever embarked on a project this big, complicated and difficult to pull off. All comments suggestions and help will be published on this site so the hive as a collective will be able to use the knowledge in their own situations.
All Hive members will be encouraged to get involved whether just contributing to forum discussions, writing blogs, reviewing books or getting ‘hands on’ in helping overcome the bureaucratic hurdles our beloved authorities will throw at us, as we try and do something they should be doing, SAVING THE PLANET!
This is our Quest. We believe we have started down the road of a modern day hunt for the Holy Grail!! The grail of free energy, affordable housing, and quality of Life.
